EXPANDED County Views

Blogs on county issues and conservative strategy coming weekly

We want to maintain & NEED Conservative Governance Principles Applied at the County Level

Fiscal Restraint

  • Prioritize balanced budgets and limit new taxes.
  • Require clear cost–benefit analysis before expanding programs.
  • Focus spending on core county responsibilities (roads, public safety, elections, land records).
  • As I review updates to the county’s Strategic Master Plan, a fiscally restrained approach will scrutinize long-term financial commitments and avoid creating ongoing taxpayer obligations without voter input.

Local Control

  • Resist top-down mandates from the state whenever possible.
  • Preserve county authority over land use and zoning decisions.

Locally
With growth pressures and state housing policy debates, a local-control approach will emphasize keeping zoning and land-use authority in the hands of Park County residents rather than deferring to statewide standards.

Property Rights

  • Protect private landowners from excessive regulation.
  • Keep permitting predictable and limited to legitimate health/safety concerns.

Locally:
When I review and revise subdivision or short-term rental rules, the focus would be on preventing government overreach while still addressing legitimate public impacts.

Public Safety & Wildfire Mitigation

  • Fund sheriff, emergency response, and wildfire mitigation first.
  • Ensure preparedness plans are practical and locally driven.

Locally:
Given wildfire risk in forested areas of Park County, this mean prioritizing defensible-space education, interagency coordination, and clear evacuation planning.

With meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to excellence, we create spaces that inspire, elevate, and enrich the lives of those who inhabit them.

Constitutional / Small-Government Principles I want to promote

At the county level, constitutional governance needs to center on:

Limited Scope of Authority

As a Commisioner I will operate within clearly defined statutory authority and avoid expanding bureaucracy unnecessarily.

Separation of Powers Respect

Work cooperatively with independently elected officials (Sheriff, Clerk & Recorder, Treasurer) rather than consolidating power.

Transparency & Due Process

  • Open meetings
  • Clear land-use processes
  • Equal treatment under county code

Subsidiarity Principle

Decisions should be made at the lowest practical level — precinct, district, or county — before escalating to state or federal solutions.

District 3 Distinguishing Issues we will address
